Telematics Discounts
How the discount is earned
Every carrier’s program is a little different, but they reward the same good habits: driving fewer miles, braking smoothly, staying off the phone behind the wheel, and skipping the riskiest late-night hours. Instead of pricing you on averages, your rate gets to reflect the careful driver you actually are.
Who saves the most
Careful drivers and folks who don’t drive many miles tend to see the biggest benefit. Many programs hand you a discount for signing up, then add more based on your driving over the program period.
Good questions to ask first
Is it an app or a plug-in device, and how long does the program run? Is the discount guaranteed, or based on your results? How is your driving data used and stored? Is the program available here in Washington or Oregon? And one honest note: while most programs only lower your rate or leave it unchanged, a few can raise it for consistently risky driving, so it pays to know how yours works.

How Altech helps
As an independent agency, we can tell you which of our carriers offer a telematics discount, walk you through the trade-offs, and help you decide whether it fits your driving. No pressure, no obligation.
Discount programs from our carriers
Several of the carriers we work with run their own programs, and each one works a little differently. Discounts and availability vary by state and change over time, so ask us what fits your situation.

Liberty Mutual RightTrack (formerly Safeco)
- How it works
- App-based telematics.
- How long it runs

Nationwide SmartRide and SmartMiles
- How it works
- SmartRide is a smartphone app or plug-in device. SmartMiles is a pay-per-mile option with a mileage-tracking device.
- How long it runs
- SmartRide: your discount is set at renewal based on your driving. SmartMiles: ongoing, billed monthly by miles driven.
- Good to know
- SmartRide gives a participation discount to start, with the final discount applied at renewal and adjusted based on your driving. In Washington the renewal discount can go down as well as up. SmartMiles fits people who drive well under average and want their bill to reflect it.
